England are in a backs to the wall position on the first day. After a reasonable opening session on the first day England limped to the close of play with a score of 307-8. Australia’s bowlers played particularly but struggled a bit with no front line spinner and this could work out well for England as the pitch looks like it will turn and Australia are using Marcus North as their main spinner.
England’s new Ashes recruit Trott started off very slow to get off the mark but has made an impressive 41. If England are to have any chance tomorrow they will need Broad to score a half century but this looks unlikely as he will be batting with tail enders and Australia will no doubt have a strategy in place to keep the tail enders on strike. Ladbrokes have the batting betting odds of 10/11 to score over 46 runs.
Start of play tomorrow starts at 10am GMT. Can England put on a score of 350+ to have any chance of wining the test and Ashes?
